Mental Health First Aid starts with you
What is Mental Health First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course which teaches people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis.

MHFA (England) training won't teach you to be a therapist, but just like physical first aid, it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis.

Our Adult courses are for everyone aged 16 and over, and are delivered by Andrea, a quality assured Instructor Member who has successfully completed an Instructor Training programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health.  This training also includes how to keep you safe and supported while you learn.

Meet your Trainer

Hello, I'm Andrea and I'm looking forward to meeting you!  I'm an accredited Instructor Member, approved by MHFA England to deliver Adult MHFA and Refresher courses.  With over 25 years' experience in Occupational Health and Safety management, mental health isn't something we can afford to ignore any longer.  Much like physical first aid, MHFA is a skill for life and something you can use at home, at work and in social situations.

You never know when you might need it!

the course.....

The option to "opt out" of discussions which might be "difficult" is a valuable tool to allow engagement, without any risk of being taken further then candidate wants to go.  This supports the "safe space".

Darren

Really enjoyed this course and will be invaluable in my job.  Very powerful content in the course - Thank you

Joy

I didn't want to attend the course.  Having completed the course I have found it informative and beneficial in my workplace.  The way the trainers lead the training also enabled the group to work together and share personal information/accounts, which reinforced group learning.  I am confident that there will be positive benefit to organisational structure with the action plan.

Nigel

Course was well run and maintained "safe" space throughout.

Anon

Very informative, valuable, intriguing & useful for implementing to everyday life.  Should be taught in all healthcare settings in the same respect as [physical] first aid or CPR.  Andrea was excellent :)

Lindsay

Really interesting and has helped me break down some of my unfair perceptions of mental health issues

Andrea was enthusiastic and extremely inclusive of everyone.  She got everyone involved in a lovely manner and was very approachable.... Really enjoyable course, have learnt a lot.

Covid-19 Policy

Anyone failing to observe these basic standards shall be refused access to the course or asked to leave the building and will not be permitted to continue on the course. There shall be no reimbursement of course costs paid in this instance.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Instructions

Our aim is to make our work and training environments as safe as we can – with your help.

1. Upon arrival at the training venue or our office, all delegates/visitors will be checked for Covid-19 symptoms: continuous cough, change to sense of smell or taste, and/or a temperature of 37.8C or above. Temperatures will be checked using a non-contact digital thermometer from a distance. Face masks are to be worn properly (ie fully covering the nose and mouth of each wearer).

Anyone exhibiting any/all of the above symptoms will not be permitted onto the course, and will be asked to leave the building.

2. Everyone will be asked to confirm that they should not be self-isolating or have been advised by NHS Track and Trace to self-isolate to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Have you had close contact with a family member or close friend with symptoms, or a confirmed case within the last 14 days?

3. On arrival, you will be asked to sanitise your hands thoroughly with the alcohol gel provided.

If you need to cough or sneeze at any point you are to cough or sneeze directly into a tissue and bin it immediately afterwards. You must then re-sanitise your hands.

If a tissue is unavailable, the next best thing is to cough or sneeze into your bent elbow.

Never cough or sneeze without covering your mouth or nose. This puts others at risk of contracting Covid-19 if you are a carrier. Don’t forget, you may be asymptomatic.

4. You will be shown a video on how Covid-19 spreads and how to wash your hands properly.

a) https://youtu.be/1APwqldf6Mw
b) https://youtu.be/6QCP7waTRWU

The biggest risk of spreading Covid-19 appears to be through passing the virus on when you touch things, via droplets expelled from nose and mouth, and contaminating surfaces. Surfaces may be contaminated for many days so it is important to clean areas that are frequently touched regularly (door handles, light switches, kettles, etc).

5. To control the risk of spreading Covid-19 in the training or office environment we have:

i) reduced the number of people on our courses to allow social distancing of 2m to be observed as much as possible;
ii) provided hand sanitiser for you to use;
iii) wiped all desks, chairs, pens and high-touch points at the start of the day and at regular intervals thoughout the day;
iv) used gloves when handling your learning materials at the point of issue;
v) requested that you wear a face mask properly AND maintain 1m+ social distancing during activities and when collecting refreshments and using the communal areas including toilets;
vi) provided spare disposable face masks if required.

6. You will be required to sanitise your hands when you return to the room, and before and after any group work. Please keep your hands to yourself! (Don’t touch anything unless it’s absolutely necessary.)

7. Keep 2m (6ft 6inches) apart from other people at all times where possible (unless as described at point 5v above).

8. All rubbish and used wipes are to be disposed of in the bins provided.

Face Masks

9. You will be trained in the correct use of 3-ply face masks and these must be properly worn whenever 2m cannot be maintained, and/or in communal areas or during group activities. Your nose and mouth must be covered by the face mask.

We reserve the right to revise and amend these Terms and Conditions from time to time.
